Kwara United Begin 10-Day Break After Federation Cup Triumph

Kwara United begin 10-day break after Federation Cup win, eye CAF Confederation Cup prep.

Governor rewards players with cash and land as club plots squad boost for continental push.

Following their historic triumph in the 2025 President’s Federation Cup, Kwara United have commenced a 10-day break to recuperate ahead of a packed 2025/2026 campaign that includes both domestic and continental duties.

The break was confirmed after Kwara United clinched the Federation Cup title with a dramatic 4-3 penalty shootout win over Abakaliki FC at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos. The tightly contested final ended goalless in regulation time before Kwara United emerged victorious in the shootout to lift the prestigious national trophy.

The Harmony Boys are expected to resume training on Thursday, July 11, to begin full preparations for the upcoming Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season and their participation in the CAF Confederation Cup, a reward for their success in the domestic cup.

Club officials say the brief break will allow players to recharge before the rigorous demands of top-flight football and international competition resume.

In recognition of the team’s achievement, Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq hosted the players and officials on Tuesday, July 1. During the reception, he announced cash rewards of ₦5 million and plots of land for each player, a gesture that was widely praised across the football community.

The governor’s largesse underlines the significance of the club’s victory, which has not only brought pride to Kwara State but also returned the club to continental football prominence.

With the Federation Cup title secured, Kwara United now shift focus to building a squad capable of competing at the continental level, as the CAF Confederation Cup draws nearer. The club is expected to strengthen its roster and improve tactical depth during the upcoming preseason to boost its chances in Africa’s second-tier club competition.

Their Federation Cup win marks a turning point for the club, and fans will be eager to see how the team translates this momentum into sustained success both locally and internationally.
