20 fighters earn millions, with MVP Samuel Dahunsi awarded land for stellar tournament performance.
Agulo Seite Boxing Club emerged champions of the Yucateco Boxing League Season Two after a thrilling finale in Shagamu, Ogun State, on Monday, where 20 fighters walked away with cash rewards running into millions of naira.
In what has been dubbed Nigeria’s toughest Olympic-style boxing competition, the league finale drew hundreds of boxing fans and officials eager to witness the culmination of a season that has reshaped the country’s amateur boxing landscape.
Millions won across categories
Each champion in the league’s weight divisions earned ₦2 million, with silver and bronze medalists receiving ₦1 million and ₦500,000, respectively. In total, 20 boxers were rewarded for their performances during the intense league season.

Agulo Seite, who was tied with Ogbas Families Boxing Club heading into the penultimate round, surged ahead to claim the coveted ₦50 million team prize by securing the most individual victories.
Despite his team finishing second, Ogbas Family’s Samuel Dahunsi was named Most Valuable Boxer of the tournament. He was rewarded with a plot of land valued at ₦20 million in Ikorodu, Lagos.
“This is a huge honor and a dream come true for me,” Dahunsi said after receiving the award.
Since launching in August 2024, the Yucateco League has become a game changer in Nigerian amateur boxing. With over 300 registered fighters from 12 accredited clubs and 520 bouts contested, the league has already produced champions who represented their states at the National Sports Festival.
“I aim to drive a sustainable model for boxing development in the country,” said Honorable Omolei Imadu, CEO of Yucateco Boxing Promotions.
“Hence the resolve to create a league system to support these young boxers.”
Imadu also revealed his intention to contest for a seat on the board of the Nigeria Boxing Federation, stating that the platform would allow him to introduce a comprehensive blueprint for advancing boxing at the national level.
To maintain competitive momentum ahead of Season Three, scheduled for October, the league’s promoters have lined up several events. These include a grassroots inter-local government tournament in July, as well as Fight Night showcases in Ogun and Ekiti States.
The consistent structure and reward system of the Yucateco Boxing League is already being hailed as a model for amateur boxing across Africa.
