Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota has died at the age of 28 following a fatal car accident in Spain. The incident, which also claimed the life of his younger brother Andre, occurred early Thursday morning near Zamora in the northwest region of the country.

According to reports from Spanish news agency EFE, the crash took place on the Rias Bajas Highway (A-52) close to Palacios de Sanabria at around 12:40am local time. Local media outlet El Mundo stated that the vehicle veered off the road and caught fire while heading in the direction of Benavente.
Jota’s death comes just ten days after he tied the knot. The player had recently posted photos from his wedding on social media. He leaves behind three children.
His brother, 26-year-old Andre Jota, was a professional footballer as well, playing for Penafiel, a club in Portugal’s second division.
Diogo Jota joined Liverpool in September 2020 after a move from Wolverhampton Wanderers that cost the Merseyside club over £40 million. He quickly became a key figure for both Liverpool and the Portuguese national team, known for his sharp movement, work ethic, and ability to score in big matches.
