Nollywood is witnessing fresh tension as actress Chinelo Rita takes to social media to publicly call out her colleague Ruby Ojiakor, accusing her of neglect and emotional insensitivity following the recent death of her younger sister.
In a detailed Facebook post, Chinelo Rita expressed her heartbreak over losing her sister shortly after Ruby’s high-profile wedding to actor Moc Madu. She criticized what she described as growing pretentiousness within the film industry, suggesting that some relationships among actors are surface-level and driven by convenience rather than genuine concern.
While Chinelo clarified that she holds no personal grudge against Ruby, she didn’t shy away from stating that she was deeply hurt by what she perceived as Ruby’s cold indifference during her time of mourning.
“I’m a very blunt person,” Chinelo wrote, “and I say things as they are. My sister died not long after your wedding, Ruby, and you couldn’t even call or check on me. That’s not how people who claim to care behave.”
Chinelo backed up her claims by sharing a screenshot of a direct message she sent to Ruby on Instagram, voicing her displeasure in private before deciding to speak out publicly. She also revealed that she had gone out of her way to support Ruby’s wedding, even buying clothes for the occasion a gesture she now sees as unreciprocated.
Her post has since triggered mixed reactions online. Some fans sided with Chinelo, agreeing that the lack of empathy among colleagues in Nollywood is disturbing, while others called for restraint, suggesting that matters like this should be handled privately.
As of the time of this report, Ruby Ojiakor has not responded to the allegations.
