FG Launches Free Training Program to Upskill Technical Teachers Nationwide

Federal Government rolls out free one-year training for public school technical teachers across Nigeria.

Program aims to boost teaching quality and modernize vocational education for future workforce needs.

The Federal Government has launched a nationwide, tuition-free training program for public secondary school teachers teaching technical and vocational subjects as part of its 2025/2026 Technical Teachers Training Program (TTTP).

The initiative, unveiled by the Department of Technology and Science Education under the Federal Ministry of Education, offers a one-year Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) designed to enhance the quality of instruction and align technical education with modern industry standards.

According to the Ministry, the TP is part of the government’s broader strategy to revitalize Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Nigeria. By equipping teachers with contemporary pedagogical and practical skills, the program aims to produce more qualified educators and technically competent graduates ready for the 21st-century workforce.

Only public school teachers currently teaching vocational or technical subjects and with at least five years of service remaining before retirement are eligible. A recent medical fitness report is also required.
