Police Nab Notorious Cultist Over Oko Killings
Anambra police arrest suspected cultist “Bus-Stop” over murder, abduction, and armed robbery in Oko.
Authorities recover weapon, phones, and uncover planned cult attack foiled on arrest day.
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Awkuzu, Anambra State have apprehended a suspected cultist, 25-year-old Chukwujekwu Micheal Okoye, popularly known as “Bus-Stop”, in connection with a string of violent crimes including murder, abduction, and armed robbery in the state.
The spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Awka on Tuesday, noting that the suspect was captured on July 7, 2025, during a targeted operation.
Ikenga explained that Okoye’s arrest follows an investigation into a violent incident that occurred in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area. The attack left two people dead, two others injured, and another two abducted. The kidnapped victims were later released after ransom payments were made. The attacks reportedly took place early last month around Total Junction and Tipper Junction in Oko.
During the arrest, police recovered an automatic pump-action firearm and two mobile phones believed to be stolen. Investigators say the items were crucial in linking the suspect to the crimes.
Further digging into Okoye’s criminal history revealed a robbery incident that took place in the early hours of May 22, 2025, where he allegedly held a victim at gunpoint in Oko, stealing a handset and other valuables.
Upon interrogation, Okoye confessed to being a senior member, or “Lord”, in the Aye Confraternity, a notorious cult group operating in the region. He also disclosed that the group had planned an initiation ceremony and a rival cult attack for July 7 the same day he was arrested. Additionally, he detailed the gang’s coordinated assault on June 19, during which he and six accomplices launched a violent attack in Oko.
“The suspect’s confession has provided critical leads, and operatives are already working to track down and arrest other members of the gang,” SP Ikenga said. “Efforts are ongoing to dismantle the wider criminal network and bring all culprits to justice.”
He added that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
