Otti Pushes for Higher FG Allocation to Abia
Governor Alex Otti seeks increased federal allocation, citing Abia’s debt reduction and fiscal discipline.
Aba Union declares full support for his 2027 reelection, praising his transformative leadership and impact.
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has renewed calls for increased revenue allocation from the Federal Government to help accelerate development in the state, citing his administration’s record of financial discipline and reduced debt burden. His appeal comes as the Aba Union, a prominent socio-cultural group representing the old Aba Division, declared full support for his reelection bid in 2027.
Governor Otti requested that Mrs. Nkechi Otti, the Federal Commissioner representing Abia State at the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), who led a delegation to present her findings from a familiarization tour and stakeholder engagements across the state, be received.
Otti emphasized that enhanced federal allocation would empower the state to execute critical infrastructure and development projects. He also pointed to a recent report by the Debt Management Office (DMO) that praised Abia for its responsible fiscal management.
“Anything you can do to help us increase our Federal allocation will be very much appreciated,” Governor Otti said. “We have a lot on our hands, and we’ve demonstrated financial discipline. The recent DMO report shows that we’ve reduced our debt significantly.”
Mrs. Nkechi Otti, who was appointed a few months ago, said her visit was part of efforts to understand the economic realities on the ground and engage with state stakeholders for informed fiscal recommendations at the federal level.
In a significant political endorsement, the Aba Union has vowed to back Governor Otti’s reelection in 2027, crediting him with transformative leadership and unparalleled performance.
During a meeting with the Governor, the President of Aba Union, Eze Love Nwogu, and the state’s first Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief Theo Nkire, admitted they had not supported Otti in the 2023 election. However, they expressed deep admiration for his achievements since taking office.
“We didn’t support you before, but having seen your good works, we now stand with you fully,” Nkire said. “With our backing, you will not have any opponent in 2027.”
The group described Otti’s performance as “unprecedented,” claiming his track record has exceeded that of previous administrations.
In his response, the Governor thanked the Union for its solidarity and outlined key projects that had been executed in their region. He revealed that his administration had completed several road reconstructions in Aba and surrounding areas and was renovating the ancestral home of one of the region’s most iconic leaders, the late Chief Jaja Wachukwu.
Otti also announced plans to honor Chief Wachukwu with a posthumous birthday celebration on January 1, 2026, in recognition of his legacy as a statesman from Ngwaland.
