Iyabo Ojo Opens Up on Why She Backed Princess in Baba Ijesha Case
Iyabo Ojo says her fierce support during Baba Ijesha’s case came from personal trauma.
She believes celebrities must lead right, not excuse abuse or silence survivors’ painful truths.
Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has opened up about the personal experiences that fueled her strong support for comedienne Princess during the widely publicized Baba Ijesha molestation case.

Speaking on her talk show ‘The Goldroom with Iyabo’, the actress disclosed that her advocacy was driven by personal trauma. She shared that she had been a victim of sexual abuse multiple times in the past, and the painful memories influenced her emotional response to the incident.
“I didn’t control my emotions then because I was outraged by what happened,” she said. “I think it’s because I was also coming from that place, having experienced what she went through multiple times. I just felt like enough is enough.”
Iyabo expressed deep disappointment over how some adults handled the case, especially those who blamed the victim or discredited Princess. She noted that such reactions reveal how far Nigeria still has to go in addressing sexual abuse and safeguarding children.
She also emphasized the duty of public figures to uphold moral standards. “You’ll notice that when I kick, I kick when fellow entertainers do wrong,” she said. “We are meant to lead by example. We are evangelists in our own right we cannot preach virtue and practice vice.”
