The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has thrown its weight behind the recent unveiling of Enugu Air by the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, describing it as a groundbreaking initiative that will expand economic frontiers for the South-East region.

In a press statement released on Tuesday, the group’s National President, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, hailed the development as a reflection of prudent governance and strategic vision by the Mbah-led government. He noted that the new airline would not only enhance the image of Enugu State but also catalyse job creation, youth empowerment, and overall economic growth.

“This is the first of its kind in the South-East, and just the second in the entire country after Akwa Ibom. It speaks volumes,” Okwu said.

He praised Governor Mbah for what he termed “innovation and governance on another level,” adding that the airline represents a milestone in the economic transformation of the state. “It is a milestone achievement and should be commended by all men of goodwill in the South-East and beyond,” he said.

According to him, the introduction of Enugu Air demonstrates sound economic management by the Enugu State government and reveals the administration’s commitment to delivering sustainable infrastructure that meets both present and future needs.

Okwu also expressed excitement over the inclusion of Enugu youths in the airline’s operational team, pointing out that one of the captains is a young person from the state.

“We are even more delighted that one of the captains is a youth from Enugu State, which is another indication that Enugu Air will provide jobs for the youths, advance the economic prosperity of the state, and indeed the South-East,” he added.

He called on residents of the state and the broader Igbo community to unite in support of Governor Mbah, irrespective of political affiliation, stressing that the time had come to prioritize progress over partisanship.

“Governor Mbah is showing governance, and it is time for everyone to support the government fully,” the Igbo youth leader said.

Speaking on the operational readiness of the airline, Okwu revealed that the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had already granted approval for the commencement of domestic flight operations under the operational support of XEJET. He expressed confidence that Enugu Air would soon secure its Air Operator Certificate (AOC), allowing for independent flight operations.

“We are glad that the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has already approved the commencement of domestic flight operations by Enugu Air, just about 24 hours after the airline was launched,” he stated.

“It is cheering, and we expect that while they resume operation through XEJET as its operational partner, very soon, it will receive Air Operator Certificate (AOC),” he added.

The Ohanaeze Youth Council’s endorsement adds to the growing commendations trailing the launch of Enugu Air, which many stakeholders view as a bold step toward transforming the South-East into an aviation and business hub. The state government has hinted that the airline will prioritize connecting the region with other key commercial centers across Nigeria, aiming to ease the movement of people and goods while improving investor confidence in the zone.

Governor Mbah’s administration has been credited with driving significant infrastructural renewal, including investments in roads, water supply, and public services. The unveiling of Enugu Air appears to be the latest in a series of initiatives aimed at elevating Enugu State’s profile in national and international conversations on development.
