Vice President Shettima Arrives UK to Bring Buhari’s Body Back to Nigeria
Vice President Kashim Shettima is in the UK to oversee Buhari’s body return to Nigeria.
Buhari will be buried today in line with Islamic rites after dying in London.
Vice President Kashim Shettima has landed in the United Kingdom to oversee the return of the body of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday after a long illness. Buhari died at a hospital in London, where he had been receiving treatment.

According to a statement by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima arrived in the UK early Monday and was received at the hospital by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuff Tuggar. The Vice President had reportedly departed Nigeria around midnight on Sunday.
Also present to receive him in London were the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Sources close to the Presidency confirmed that Buhari’s remains will be transported back to Nigeria today for burial. The former president will be laid to rest in line with Islamic traditions.
Buhari served as Nigeria’s civilian president from 2015 to 2023, after a previous stint as military head of state between 1983 and 1985. His death comes after years of managing various health issues, some of which were not disclosed to the public.
Nigerians at home and abroad are expected to pay their final respects as preparations for his burial continue.
