Drama at National Assembly as Senator Natasha Is Denied Entry
Senator Natasha Akpoti marched to the National Assembly but met resistance from armed officers.
She was joined by activists as officers at the second gate stopped her again firmly.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who is currently under suspension, arrived at the National Assembly complex on Tuesday in Abuja to resume her legislative duties. However, her entry was blocked by security personnel, creating a tense scene around the premises.

Akpoti-Uduaghan initially attempted to drive through the Mopol gate, but her vehicle was stopped by armed security operatives. After being denied access, she stepped out of her car and continued on foot. She was not alone, prominent human rights activist Aisha Yesufu and a group of civil society members accompanied her as she walked towards the main gate.

Despite covering a distance of nearly one kilometre to reach the Assembly’s second entrance, her efforts were again halted by security agents. They physically blocked her from entering the complex, insisting she could not proceed any further.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has cited a court ruling that ordered her immediate reinstatement, but the Senate maintains a different stance. In a recent statement, the legislative body said the court’s decision was not binding on its internal disciplinary process. According to them, the judgment was only an advisory opinion and not a directive to override Senate procedures.
