Bauchi Government Demotes School Principal and Teacher for Misconduct Over Sale of School Property

Bauchi Teachers Commission punishes two officials for selling school property without approval.

They were demoted, reassigned, and ordered to refund ₦597,000 plus unpaid staff allowances.

The Bauchi State Teachers Service Commission has sanctioned two senior education officials for gross misconduct involving the unauthorized sale of government property. The affected officers are Malam Musa Ahmed, the Principal of Government Day Secondary School, Kirfi, and Malam Adamu Shehu, a Senior Master at the same institution.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Commission’s Information Officer, Malam Dahiru Adamu, the disciplinary action followed a thorough investigation carried out by a four-member panel.
The probe, initiated by the Commission’s Overseeing Permanent Secretary, Garba Bashe, found that the principal and senior teacher conspired to sell off several school assets illegally.

These included 32 scrapped student beds, nine jumbo aluminum cooking pots, and roofing zinc, all of which were obtained without proper authorization from the Bauchi State Ministry of Education.

“The commission has therefore approved the demotion of the two officers by one grade, and both will be reassigned to different schools to resume teaching duties,” Adamu stated.

In addition to the demotion, the commission directed that the officials refund ₦597,000, the assessed value of the sold items. The principal, Malam Musa Ahmed, has also been instructed to pay an additional ₦72,000 owed to the school’s casual workers as outstanding allowances.

The commission reaffirmed its commitment to upholding discipline and transparency within the education sector and pledged to work closely with security agencies to ensure full recovery of the diverted items.
