Bauchi Tertiary Institutions Union Raises Alarm Over Salary Shortfalls, Seeks Government Action
Bauchi education unions raise alarm over June salary shortfalls despite approved new pay structure.
JAC urges government to correct discrepancies and revisit pension policy deemed unfair to workers.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of academic and non-academic staff in Bauchi State-owned tertiary institutions has expressed concern over salary discrepancies affecting some of its members.

During a press briefing held on Thursday, JAC Chairman Abubakar Ahmed confirmed that the state government had approved and begun implementing 90% of the revised salary structures COMPCASS and CONTEDISS effective from June 2025. He praised the development as a significant step forward for education workers across the state.
However, Ahmed highlighted a troubling issue, noting that several employees received incomplete salaries for June. He said some discrepancies ranged from N2,000 to as much as N40,000.
“We believe the shortfalls were not deliberate and may have resulted from calculation or transmission errors,” he explained. “We appeal to the appropriate authorities to urgently look into these inconsistencies and ensure that every affected worker receives their full entitlement.”
In addition to the salary issue, the union also reiterated its stance on the Bauchi State Contributory Pension Scheme. According to Ahmed, while JAC supports initiatives that guarantee retirement benefits, certain aspects of the scheme remain unfavorable to workers.
“We’ve thoroughly reviewed the pension policy and raised our concerns with the Head of Service,” he stated. “There are clauses in the administration of pensions after retirement that we consider unfair, and we urge the government to revisit the scheme in the interest of all workers.”
Ahmed concluded by reaffirming the union’s commitment to constructive dialogue while calling on the government to prioritize the welfare of education sector staff.
