President Bola Tinubu has advised governors under the All Progressives Congress (APC) to strengthen ties with communities and respond better to the needs of the people.
He made the call on Thursday during the 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party in Abuja. Tinubu stressed the importance of building closer relationships between leaders and the grassroots to achieve meaningful development.
“Nigerians are still complaining at the grassroots,” Tinubu said. “Governors must do more to bring real progress to the people. May God bless our democracy and give us more fruitful lands.”
He urged APC governors to pay attention to citizens’ concerns, invest in their welfare, and stay committed to the Renewed Hope Agenda. The President also encouraged collective work towards leaving a strong legacy for the party, including the construction of a permanent national secretariat in Abuja.
He said, “Let’s work with the FCT Minister and the 23 governors to identify land for the APC headquarters. A committee should be formed to begin this immediately.”
Speaking on the economy, President Tinubu highlighted improvements made so far. He pointed to the N14.9 trillion collected by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in the first half of 2025 a 43 percent rise from 2024.
“Managing an unstable economy isn’t easy. But now, the economy is more stable, and we are on the path to steady growth,” Tinubu assured.
On security, he said efforts to tackle insecurity were yielding results. “Thousands of terrorists and bandits have been neutralized. Fear is reducing, but we must continue to stay alert and serious about security.”
He ended by welcoming new members into the party and encouraged governors to embrace Nigerians with fresh ideas and commitment to progress.
The meeting also included a minute of silence in honor of late elder statesmen Alhaji Aminu Dantata and Oba Sikiru Adetona of Ijebuland, whom the President praised for their service to the nation.
