Bariga LCDA has renamed key streets to honor icons like Tinubu, Olamide, Sunny Ade, and Saka.
The council says the move celebrates excellence and inspires pride in community and cultural heritage.
Bariga LCDA has officially renamed several streets to honor prominent Nigerians. The new names celebrate icons like Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu, Sunny Ade, Olamide, and football star Bukayo Saka.

The Chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Kolade Alabi David, on Thursday announced the official renaming of several streets within the council in honor of national and local icons. The move is part of efforts to recognize individuals who have brought honor to the community, Lagos State, and Nigeria at large.
In a formal announcement, Hon. Alabi stated, “As an administration, we took our time to reflect on a number of our people who have put the name of our local council out on the global map through their respective God-given talents and crafts, as well as eminent personalities in our Nation and our beloved State and Local Council who have contributed immensely to the development of our Nation and our State.”
Among the renamed streets are:
- Ilajẹ Road is now King Sunny Ade Road
- Bariga Road becomes Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way
- Community Road, Akoka renamed Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road
- Ajidagan Street now Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street
- Charly Boy Bus Stop is now Baddo Bus Stop
- Ifeanyi Street renamed Abolore Akande (9ice) Street
- Ayodele Street, Ladi-Lak becomes Tony Tetuila Street
- Ilojo Crescent, Obanikoro, now bears the name Bukayo Saka Street
The decision was met with mixed reactions online, with many applauding the council for recognising homegrown talents like Olamide and 9ice, who hail from the area, as well as Bukayo Saka, a UK-born footballer of Nigerian descent.
The council boss emphasized that the renaming was not just symbolic but part of a wider cultural revitalization project aimed at instilling pride in the community’s heritage and inspiring the next generation.
More details on signage updates and community sensitization are expected in the coming days.
