Kano Governor Orders Probe Into Commissioner’s Alleged Role in Drug Suspect’s Bail
Kano Governor Abba Yusuf has ordered a probe into claims involving his Transport Commissioner.
The official is accused of helping secure bail for an alleged drug trafficker.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has ordered an immediate investigation into allegations linking the state’s Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi, to the controversial bail of a suspected drug trafficker, Sulaiman Wawu.

The directive comes after public outrage erupted over reports that the commissioner’s name appeared in documents allegedly used to facilitate the suspect’s release.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, said the state government views the matter as serious and would not protect anyone undermining the fight against drug-related crimes.
“To ensure a thorough and impartial inquiry,” the statement said, “Governor Yusuf has set up a special investigative committee to examine the issue and recommend necessary actions.”
The seven-member panel is headed by Aminu Hussain, Special Adviser on Justice and Constitutional Matters. Other members include Hamza Haladu, Hamza Nuhu Dantani, Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmoud Umar, retired Major General Sani Muhammad, Kabiru Said Dakata, and Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota, who will serve as secretary.
While inaugurating the panel, Governor Yusuf expressed concern over the possible misuse of public office and reaffirmed his administration’s strong opposition to drug trafficking and abuse.
“Our government will not tolerate any act that puts the lives and safety of our people at risk. We are committed to fighting drug abuse and anyone found guilty no matter their role will be held accountable,” he stated.
As of the time of this report, the Transport Commissioner has not publicly responded to the allegations.
The suspect at the center of the case, known as Dan Wawu, was arrested on drug trafficking charges. His sudden release, allegedly involving political influence, has sparked concern among residents.
The investigation comes as the Kano State Government intensifies its efforts to combat drug use and crime, especially among the youth a challenge Governor Yusuf has often identified as a major threat to the state’s future.
