Nigerian Scientist Warns of Impending Earthquake, Says Country Not Immune to Natural Disasters
A Uyo-based scientist has warned Nigeria may soon face a major earthquake due to rising seismic activity.
Dr. Ikott says climate disasters are worsening and claims his weather-control tech could prevent them.
A Uyo-based scientist, Dr. Anietie Ikott, has raised alarm over the potential for a major earthquake in Nigeria, warning that the country could soon face severe climate-related disasters.

Speaking in Uyo on Saturday, Dr. Ikott challenged the common belief that Nigeria is outside the global seismic zone. He pointed to recent tremors in Abuja and parts of the South-West as evidence that the nation is at risk.
“The notion that Nigeria is immune to earthquakes is false,” Ikott stated. “We have already seen tremors in Abuja and the western region, which clearly indicates that seismic activities can occur here.”
Ikott, who serves as the Chief Executive Director of Anirich Nig. Limited, also cited ongoing climate change impacts such as destructive windstorms, excessive rainfall, and flooding that have caused massive loss of lives and infrastructure, particularly in Niger and Borno states.
“We are experiencing climate-related disasters at an increasing rate. If care is not taken, Nigeria will soon witness a devastating earthquake. Such an event would leave permanent scars on any region it affects,” he warned.
However, the scientist claimed that such disasters could be averted using a weather-control technology he developed.
“Earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, cyclones, hurricanes, and even excessive ice storms can be controlled,” Ikott said. “My weather control technology has the potential to mitigate these threats before they happen.”
