Charley Boy Slams Renaming of His Bus Stop After Olamide, Says “It’s Silly and Petty”

Charley Boy has criticized the renaming of his Bariga bus stop to honor rapper Olamide, calling it unnecessary.

He questioned the decision, insisting his impact on the community remains significant and verifiable.

Veteran singer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charley Boy, has reacted strongly to the recent renaming of Charly Boy Bus Stop in Bariga, Lagos. The landmark, named after him for years, was recently changed by the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) to honor popular rapper Olamide Adedeji, also known as Baddo.

The council chairman announced the change last Friday, explaining that several streets and bus stops would now carry the names of indigenes who have made remarkable contributions both in Nigeria and abroad.

While many see the move as a celebration of homegrown stars like Olamide, Charley Boy isn’t impressed. In a recent interview with News Central, the entertainer openly criticized the decision.

He did not hide his displeasure, calling the move, “A little bit silly, a little bit petty.” Although he made it clear he has nothing personal against Olamide receiving recognition, Charley Boy questioned why his own name had to be removed in the process.

He pointed out that his contributions to the Bariga community are undeniable.

“The fact that my bus stop was renamed is neither here nor there. I just believe that was a little bit silly, a little bit petty because if it is about talking about what one has done for that community, go and verify, you can’t touch my records,” he said.

He also suggested that the decision may have had more to do with politics than genuine honor.
