Governor Uzodinma gifts N70 million to Imo-born Super Falcons stars for WAFCON 2024 victory.
He says their dedication brings pride to Nigeria and inspires youth across the state.
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has rewarded six Super Falcons players and a coach from the state with a total of N70 million following their exceptional performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

During a reception held at the Government House in Owerri, Governor Uzodinma gifted N10 million each to six Imo-born players, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Jennifer Echegini, Osinachi Ohale, Oluchi Oluehi, Chinwendu Ihezuo, and Michelle Alozie, for their contributions to Nigeria’s 3-2 victory over Morocco in the WAFCON 2024 final held on Sunday.
In addition, the governor also presented N10 million to assistant coach Ann Chiejine, another proud representative of Imo State within the national team’s technical crew.
The cash rewards are part of the state’s efforts to celebrate the players’ achievements and encourage the growth of women’s football.
Governor Uzodinma commended the athletes for their dedication and patriotism, highlighting the pride they have brought not only to the nation but also to their home state. He described their WAFCON victory as a significant boost to youth inspiration and sports development in Imo and across Nigeria.
This gesture follows similar recognition from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who earlier honored the entire Super Falcons team with $100,000 each, a three-bedroom home, and the national award of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
