The disturbing incident came to light after Nollywood actress Omosalewa Fafowora shared a video online showing police officers arriving at the couple’s residence to take the suspect into custody. According to the video, the woman was in a critical condition and receiving treatment in the hospital at the time of the arrest.

In the footage, a police officer could be heard saying the victim had been placed on oxygen, suggesting the severity of her injuries. An elderly woman, believed to be a relative, was also seen cradling the newborn baby during the arrest.

Fafowora provided further details about the case, stating that the woman was assaulted in the presence of her own mother. She revealed that the man allegedly beat his wife until she lost consciousness, prompting the family to rush her to the hospital for urgent care.

“This man beat his wife in front of her mother. She had just given birth four days ago. She passed out and is now on oxygen at the hospital. This is not just domestic violence; this is attempted murder,” Fafowora wrote on her Instagram story.

The actress, who appeared visibly shaken in her posts, called for justice and urged the public to speak out against gender-based violence, especially in situations where new mothers are vulnerable and in need of support. She thanked the police officers for responding promptly to the report and for ensuring that the suspect was taken into custody.

Shortly after her post went viral, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) confirmed the incident. In an official statement, the agency acknowledged the assault and disclosed that the suspect was indeed arrested and would be prosecuted according to the law.

“We are aware of the case involving a woman who was assaulted days after childbirth. The Lagos State Police Command has arrested the suspect. The victim is receiving medical attention and we are following up on her condition,” the DSVA wrote in response to public concerns.

The agency also used the opportunity to remind residents that domestic violence is a criminal offense and urged anyone facing abuse to reach out through their dedicated helplines and channels for immediate support.

As of the time of this report, the identity of the suspect has not been disclosed, and investigations are still ongoing. The victim is said to be in critical condition, and her family is asking for prayers and support during this difficult time.

Meanwhile, calls for justice have continued to grow online, with many Nigerians demanding that the full weight of the law be brought against the alleged abuser. Social media users have also praised Omosalewa Fafowora for her swift intervention and for using her platform to speak up for the voiceless.
