In a disturbing development, Nigerian activist and journalist Omoyele Sowore was reportedly assaulted and abducted from his detention cell early Wednesday morning by a police team.

According to a statement shared on Sowore’s verified social media handle, the incident occurred around 6 a.m. at the Force Intelligence Department (FID) facility in Abuja. The police team, allegedly led by a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) from the IGP Monitoring Unit, is said to have forcibly entered his cell, broken his right hand, and transported him to an undisclosed location.
The reasons for this sudden transfer remain unclear, and authorities have yet to issue an official response. The development has sparked outrage online, with supporters and human rights advocates demanding answers and immediate medical attention for Sowore.
Political figure Isaac Fayose also reacted on social media, calling for Sowore’s release. “Free @yelasho now!!!” he posted, echoing growing public concern over the activist’s safety.
This incident adds to a pattern of alleged rights violations against him and has renewed calls for accountability within Nigeria’s security agencies.
