Sarah Martins says she stopped attending church after repeated unwanted advances from pastors she encountered.
The actress now focuses on private worship and charity, maintaining a personal relationship with God.
Nollywood actress Sarah Martins has opened up about her religion. Revealing that she is a Christian but had stopped going to church.
In an interview with The PUNCH, she recalled once being very active in church but later realizing that simply attending services does not guarantee God’s favor. According to her, it is a person’s actions in private that truly matter.
Martins said her turning point came after repeatedly experiencing unwanted advances from pastors in every congregation she joined. This, she explained, pushed her to step away from church gatherings and focus instead on building a personal relationship with God.
“I am not an atheist. I’m a Christian, and I used to be very active in church, but over time I realized that going to church alone doesn’t make you God’s favorite. It’s what you do behind closed doors that really matters.
“Unfortunately, in every church I attended, the pastors started making advances at me. So, I stopped. I built a personal relationship with God and made a promise to stay faithful to Him by doing things that please Him.
“Since then, every time I go down on my knees, He answers. So yes, the pastoral advances pushed me away, but I now worship God in my own way, through charity and personal devotion” she said.
