The Federal Government has disbursed a total of ₦5.12 billion to settle outstanding pension arrears for 90,689 retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) administered by the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD).
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by PTAD’s Head of Corporate Communications, Olugbenga Ajayi. He noted that the directorate had completed the payment process, underscoring its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of pensioners across the country.
Ajayi explained that the beneficiaries cut across the four main pension departments. According to him, 8,626 retirees from the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, and Prisons Pension Department (CIPPD) received a total of ₦276.03 million, representing one month’s arrears. The Police Pension Department paid ₦619.58 million to 9,681 retirees, covering two months of unpaid benefits.
Similarly, 12,773 pensioners under the Civil Service Pension Department were paid ₦408.74 million for one month’s arrears. The largest share of the disbursement went to the Parastatals Pension Department, where 59,609 retirees received ₦3.81 billion for two months’ arrears.
Ajayi reaffirmed PTAD’s dedication to ensuring that retirees receive their entitlements promptly and without unnecessary delay, adding that the latest payment reflects the government’s resolve to uphold the dignity and welfare of its senior citizens.
