Soludo Flags Off Road Construction in Onitsha

Soludo flags off St. Stephen’s Road construction in Onitsha, boosting urban renewal and infrastructure plans.

He urges support for APGA candidate, pledging security, development, and stronger legislative representation.

Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has launched the construction of St. Stephen’s Road at the Emmanuel Church Road junction in Onitsha, signaling another major step in his administration’s urban renewal drive.

The project is part of a broader plan to rehabilitate Onitsha’s internal road network, improve infrastructure, and enhance the city’s status as the state’s commercial hub. Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Soludo reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to infrastructural development, citing ongoing works in Okpoko, environmental clean-up efforts in the Ochanja axis, and other strategic projects as evidence of his long-term vision for the city.

“This project is just the beginning of our plans for inland Onitsha,” the governor said, noting that the road construction is in line with his comprehensive strategy to improve urban infrastructure, promote environmental health, and uplift residents’ quality of life.

The event also included a moment of silence in memory of the late Justice Azuka, a respected community leader and lawmaker whose recent death, Soludo described, was both tragic and disturbing. He linked the incident to broader security challenges and assured residents that his administration is committed to tackling violence head-on. “Some suspects in connection with the case have been arrested, and justice will be served,” he vowed.

On the upcoming bye-election for Onitsha North Constituency One, Soludo urged residents to support the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Barrister Mimi Azikiwe. He stressed that with APGA’s majority in the State House of Assembly, electing the party’s candidate would strengthen the constituency’s voice in legislative decision-making.

Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Aghamba, praised Soludo’s impact in Onitsha, highlighting improvements in road networks, water supply, and education. Onitsha North Mayor, Tony Nworah, echoed confidence in APGA’s electoral strength, while traditional and community groups such as Agbalanze and Umu Ikporo Onitsha pledged their support, describing the governor’s projects as a source of renewed hope for the city.
