Police Shift Tinted Glass Permit Enforcement to October 2, 2025, Citing Surge in Applications

IGP extends tinted glass permit enforcement deadline to October 2, citing surge in applications.

Police say extension allows thorough review, system upgrades, and ensures permits meet security standards.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has granted an additional extension to the grace period for enforcing the tinted glass permit requirement for vehicles, moving the enforcement date to October 2, 2025.

This decision, announced on Monday in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, comes in response to a significant increase in applications submitted through the official police portal. The surge, according to Adejobi, demonstrates a growing public willingness to comply with the directive issued earlier this year.

He explained that the extension will enable the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to carefully review each application to ensure that permits are granted strictly to individuals who meet the eligibility criteria, with national security considerations taking priority. The review process, he added, is crucial in preventing misuse of the permits, which could otherwise be exploited by criminal elements.

“In light of this, the Force considers it imperative to allow sufficient time for the meticulous scrutiny of applications to ensure that the permit is issued only to eligible and qualified individuals, in line with national security considerations,” the statement read.

Adejobi further stated that the grace period will also allow for the continuous improvement of both digital and physical verification systems. These measures, he noted, are aimed at protecting the integrity of the permit process, preventing abuse, and ensuring transparency in its issuance.

The Police spokesperson reiterated that the only authorized platform for applying for a tinted glass permit is https://possap.gov.ng. He urged members of the public to disregard any unofficial websites or intermediaries claiming to offer the service. Citizens were also advised to report any cases of extortion, hidden charges, or unauthorized processing to the relevant police authorities, using the dedicated hotline 09169967000.

The IGP assured Nigerians that the extension is part of the Force’s broader commitment to balancing public convenience with the need for strict security measures. He noted that the tinted glass permit system is not merely an administrative requirement, but a vital tool in enhancing road safety and aiding law enforcement in combating criminal activities.

The statement concluded with an appeal for continuous cooperation from the public, as the Police work to maintain security and order nationwide. “The Nigeria Police Force appreciates the cooperation of the Nigerian people and remains committed to balancing public convenience with robust security measures for the safety of all,” Adejobi said.
