IGP Egbetokun Highlights Role of Traditional Rulers in Strengthening Community Security
IGP Kayode Egbetokun pledged stronger ties with traditional rulers to boost grassroots security and peace.
He also discussed modern policing technology with Poland’s envoy to enhance the Nigeria Police Force’s efficiency.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has reaffirmed the vital role of traditional institutions in safeguarding communities and promoting national security.

Speaking at the Force Headquarters in Abuja while hosting a delegation of traditional rulers led by the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty Alayeluwa Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, and his wife, the IGP assured that the Nigeria Police Force will continue to strengthen collaboration with traditional leaders. He emphasized that this partnership would enhance grassroots inclusivity, foster sustainable peace, and support community development.

Egbetokun noted that traditional rulers have long been instrumental in maintaining harmony within their domains, adding that their influence and knowledge of local dynamics make them key allies in the fight against crime. He pledged that under his leadership, the Police would work closely with these institutions to ensure more effective community-oriented policing.
In a related development, the IGP also met with the Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Poland, His Excellency Mr. Michal Cygan, and a senior representative of W-B Group, a leading security solutions company in Poland. Discussions focused on establishing an integrated communication platform for the Nigeria Police Force to improve ICT capabilities and enhance operational efficiency.


According to the IGP, this initiative forms part of his broader vision to modernize the Force through technology adoption, intelligence-led strategies, and proactive crime prevention measures.
Egbetokun reiterated his commitment to building a Police Force that is professionally competent, service-driven, compliant with the rule of law, and ready to embrace innovative policing methods. He stressed that cooperation with both local and international partners is essential to achieving these goals, ensuring that the Nigeria Police Force remains capable of addressing evolving security challenges.
