Super Falcons Yet to Receive Tinubu’s $100,000 Reward, Says Captain Ajibade

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade says the team has yet to receive Tinubu’s $100,000 reward.

She revealed none of the promised benefits from their WAFCON victory have been delivered.

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has disclosed that Nigeria’s women’s national football team is yet to receive the $100,000 cash gift promised by President Bola Tinubu following their recent triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Speaking in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade said the team has not been paid the pledged sum, nor have they received other rewards announced during the presidential reception held in their honor.

Tinubu, celebrating the Falcons’ record-extending 10th WAFCON title, had promised each player and coach $100,000, national honors, and a house. The announcement was made shortly after the team’s victory, which came in a dramatic final against host nation Morocco.

“We have not received our money, but hopefully, it will be paid,” Ajibade stated. “They have not paid; for all the promises, we have not received anything.”

The development has drawn public attention, especially as, just a week after the Falcons’ reception, President Tinubu extended the same package of rewards to the national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for their recent African championship win.

The Falcons’ captain’s revelation raises questions about the fulfillment of government pledges to athletes who bring international glory to the country. Similar delays have been reported in the past, with sports teams often waiting months or even years to receive promised bonuses and incentives.

Despite the delay, Ajibade expressed optimism that the payments and other promised benefits would eventually be honored. The team’s WAFCON victory cemented Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football and boosted calls for better funding, infrastructure, and welfare for female athletes in the country.

The Ministry of Sports has yet to issue an official statement addressing Ajibade’s claims.
