The ceremony, held at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, marks a key milestone in preparations for the party’s national convention. The committee is chaired by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.

In his address, Damagum described the committee’s assignment as pivotal to the PDP’s future, noting that its recommendations will guide the party’s direction for the next four years. He encouraged members to prioritize the collective interests of both the party and the nation over individual ambitions.

Acknowledging recent leadership challenges and internal adjustments, Damagum reaffirmed that the PDP remains a strong pillar of Nigeria’s democratic landscape. He reminded members that the party is bigger than any single person and called for unity in rebuilding its electoral strength.

Reflecting on his own tenure as acting chairman, he emphasized the importance of resilience, clarity, and loyalty tempered with responsibility. He urged the committee to adopt practical decisions capable of restoring public confidence at a time when many citizens feel detached from political affairs.

Governor Diri, in his acceptance speech, assured that the committee would operate inclusively and consult widely to develop a fair and just zoning formula that reflects the PDP’s values and commitment to national balance.
