President Tinubu has overhauled NTA’s leadership, appointing Rotimi Richard Pedro as Director-General.
The veteran media strategist is tasked with modernizing the state broadcaster and boosting competitiveness.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a sweeping leadership change at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), appointing a fresh management team to steer the state-owned broadcaster.
Renowned media strategist Rotimi Richard Pedro will now serve as the Director-General, while Karimah Bello takes over as Executive Director of Marketing. Stella Din has been named Executive Director of News, and Sophia Essahmed assumes the role of Managing Director for NTA Enterprises Limited.
Pedro, a seasoned media entrepreneur from Lagos, brings close to 30 years of expertise in broadcasting, sports rights management, and marketing communications across Africa, the United Kingdom, and the Middle East. Trained as an entertainment and intellectual property lawyer, he also earned a master’s degree in Investment Management and Finance from City University Business School in London.
In 1995, he established Optima Sports Management International (OSMI), which went on to become one of Africa’s foremost sports content distributors, delivering major events such as the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FIFA World Cup, and CAF tournaments to audiences in over 40 countries.
Pedro’s career has included leadership positions with Bloomberg Television Africa and Rapid Blue Format, as well as consultancy roles with FIFA, UEFA, Fremantle Media, and the African Union of Broadcasters. He played a key role in securing exclusive pan-African free-to-air rights for all CAF competitions on behalf of the AUB.
Recognized for building commercially successful broadcast platforms, increasing sponsorship revenues, and delivering high-quality programming, Pedro’s appointment is seen as a decisive step toward modernizing the NTA and strengthening its position in Nigeria’s competitive media industry.
