The appointment was announced in tandem with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at drawing foreign investors and deepening Bauchi State’s collaboration with international partners.

According to government officials, Zhensheng’s appointment is part of broader efforts to diversify the state’s economy, encourage private-sector participation, and open Bauchi to international business opportunities.

Li Zhensheng currently serves as the Chairman of the China Global Promotion Cooperation Research Centre, an organisation focused on cross-border trade facilitation and investment promotion. His background in international business relations and investment strategy is expected to play a key role in advising the state on how to attract global partners, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, solid minerals, and infrastructure development.

Governor Mohammed has repeatedly stressed the need for Bauchi to move beyond dependence on federal allocations, highlighting the importance of foreign investment in transforming the state’s economy. The new appointment, observers say, aligns with his administration’s push to reposition Bauchi as a competitive hub for investment in northern Nigeria.

“The appointment of Mr. Li is a strategic step toward building stronger economic ties with international partners, especially in Asia. We are confident that his expertise and networks will support our vision for an industrialized and prosperous Bauchi State,” a senior government official said.
