The Delta State government has inaugurated an eight-man Local Organizing Committee (LOC) ahead of the 9th National Youth Games, which the state will host later this month in Asaba.

Heading the LOC is Mr. Onoriode Oborevwori, Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, supported by Chief Solomon Ogba, a former Sports Commissioner, who will serve as Adviser. The committee also features former Super Eagles defender Sam Sodje, now a board member of the Commission, working alongside colleagues Oghale Ofremu and Henrietta Ehiabor.
Also on the committee is the immediate past Director General of the Sports Commission, Mr. Festus Ohwojero, and Mr. Paul Omamomo-Ojo. The current Director General of the Commission, Emuobo Igalase, will serve as Secretary of the committee.
The LOC is tasked with coordinating all logistics and preparations to ensure a successful hosting of the Games, which will officially commence on August 26 with the arrival of contingents from across Nigeria.
At the inauguration, officials restated their commitment to hosting a world-class National Youth Games, underscoring Delta’s reputation as Nigeria’s powerhouse for grassroots and elite sports.
Officials noted that the Games will not only reinforce the state’s track record in grassroots sports development but also provide a platform for discovering new talent across the country.
The 2025 National Youth Games will bring together thousands of young athletes competing in over 30 sporting disciplines. Delta, a state that has consistently dominated national sports competitions, aims to set a new benchmark for the Games while strengthening its role in nurturing the next generation of Nigerian athletes.
