In an update released on Sunday, the agency said it carried out a joint emergency response with the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other humanitarian partners. It added that teams remain on the ground to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the damage.

“As the floodwaters recede, many residents have started returning to their homes to recover what is left of their belongings. However, the scale of displacement is still significant, with a large number of households affected,” NEMA stated.

According to the agency, the impacted areas include Old Prison, Filin Mashe, Unguwar Makafi, Unguwar Jaje Bakin Kwari, Afghanistan, Tsangaya, Karofi, Bayan Garejin Dan Juma, Jigawa (Behind NTA), Makarahuta, Tandari, Nahuta, Rugan Fulani, Ramin Kasa, Uganda (Behind New Prison), Gadan Talakawa Arikime, Yindiski (Bayan Stadium), Unguwar Wazamn Dan Fulani, Yandiksi Ganuwa, Filin Allah, and Helma Saleh/Kukuwale.

Currently, 102 displaced households amounting to 612 people are sheltering at Sabon Gari Primary School in Potiskum. NEMA noted that these families were mainly from Bayan Garejin Dan Juma (56 households), Afghanistan (21 households), and Unguwar Wanzam Dan Fulani (25 households).

The agency commended the Yobe State Government for providing immediate relief, which includes food, temporary shelters, mosquito nets, blankets, buckets, and medical assistance through YEMABUS and the Primary Health Care teams. Food supplies are also being distributed to displaced persons while plans are underway to integrate them into host communities.

NEMA assured that it is working closely with SEMA, the Federal Government, and humanitarian partners to address urgent gaps and ensure a safe return of displaced families once conditions improve.
