Peter Obi Urges Nigerians to Register and Protect Their Voter’s Card

Peter Obi appeals to Nigerians to treat voter registration seriously, describing PVCs as democracy’s strength.

He stresses that leadership accountability depends on citizens’ readiness to vote with courage and wisdom.

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reminded Nigerians of the importance of participating in the Continuous Voter Registration exercise and collecting their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). He described the PVC as the most effective tool for citizens to secure the future of the country.

In a message shared on his official X account on Monday, Obi encouraged eligible voters to take the process seriously. According to him, the voter’s card remains the strongest instrument for strengthening democracy and holding leaders accountable. “The greatest strength of democracy is in the voter’s card,” he said, adding that Nigerians must be organized to reduce the chances of election rigging.

Obi also warned citizens against selling their votes, saying politicians who engage in such practices do it only for selfish reasons. “Those who buy votes are not offering you charity; they only invest in their own corruption,” he noted. He stressed that vote buyers do not have the interest of the people at heart but only seek power to gain access to public funds.

He pointed out that selling votes amounts to mortgaging the future. According to him, when people trade their votes for money, they indirectly deny themselves and their children access to better education, healthcare, and employment opportunities. “Your vote counts, if it doesn’t, they wouldn’t be desperately buying it,” he added.

The former Anambra State governor appealed to Nigerians to choose leaders with competence, character, capacity, and compassion. He cautioned voters not to be deceived or intimidated during the election process, urging them instead to remain resolute and united.

“Our democracy is at stake. That is why I urge every eligible Nigerian to register, collect, and safeguard your PVC, and when the time comes, use it wisely,” Obi said. He concluded by insisting that a new Nigeria can only become a reality if citizens take responsibility and actively drive the change they desire.
