Anambra Police Condemns Assault on NYSC Member in Oba
Anambra police condemned the alleged assault of a female corps member by vigilante operatives in Oba.
The Command assured protection for NYSC members and warned against brutality by local security outfits.
The Anambra State Police Command has strongly denounced the reported assault of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, allegedly carried out by local vigilante operatives.
According to the Command, those suspected of being involved in the attack have already been identified. However, the absence of the alleged victim has slowed down the ongoing investigation.
Police authorities emphasized that assault, in any form, is a criminal act under Nigerian law, and the Command reserves the right to pursue appropriate legal measures in court while awaiting the cooperation of the victim.
Reassuring corps members serving across the state, the police pledged continued protection and urged them to promptly report any cases of harassment, intimidation, or abuse for immediate action.
The Command also issued a stern warning to vigilante groups and other quasi-security outfits, cautioning against acts of brutality or misuse of authority, stressing that such misconduct would not be tolerated.
The statement, signed by Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, was released in Awka on August 19, 2025.
