In a public statement on Instagram, the 25-year-old Swedish international stated that his relationship with Newcastle “cannot continue,” citing a breakdown of trust due to unfulfilled promises regarding his future. Isak joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 for a record fee of £63 million and is contracted until 2028.

Despite Isak’s declaration, Newcastle has firmly rejected his claims and maintains that he is not for sale. Liverpool has reportedly made multiple bids for the striker, with offers exceeding £110 million, but Newcastle has dismissed all of them as the summer transfer window approaches its close.

In an official response released late Tuesday, Newcastle expressed disappointment at Isak’s statement on social media and reiterated that no agreement had ever been made regarding his departure this summer.

“Alex is still under contract, and no club official has ever committed to allowing him to leave Newcastle United this summer,” the club stated. They added that while they respect players’ wishes, all decisions must align with the best interests of the club, the team, and its supporters.

“We aim to retain our top players, but we recognize that players have their own aspirations, and we value their opinions.” As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always consider the best interests of Newcastle United, the team, and our supporters in all decisions. We have made it clear that the conditions for a sale this summer have not been met, and we do not foresee those conditions being fulfilled,” the statement continued.

Despite the ongoing standoff, Newcastle insisted that Isak remains a valued member of the squad. “This is a proud football club with a strong tradition, and we strive to maintain our family atmosphere. Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates,” the club added.

The standoff has left Isak’s future unclear, as Newcastle refuse to sell while the striker pushes to leave.
