The artist, who rose to fame after signing with the label and winning Rookie of the Year at The Headies in 2014 as well as the Next Rated award in 2015, revealed that he only realized the weight of his decision after venturing into music business on his own.

After parting ways with Mavin, he went on to establish his own imprint, Banks Music. Speaking in a recent interview with reality TV star Teddy A on Echoo Room, Reekado explained that his departure was not due to conflict, but rather a personal decision at the end of his contract.

He recalled that he had signed a three-year deal with the label but allowed it to run for another two years without renewal, spending a total of five years at Mavin Records. At the end of that period, he felt strongly that it was time to move on and pursue independence.

“So, when it was time, I thought I wanted to do this now. I thought I could do it now. I just embarked on the journey, as many people would view it, prematurely. As soon as I jumped into the sea as well, I realized how premature it was,” he said.

Despite the challenges, Reekado noted that the experience taught him valuable lessons about independence and navigating the industry.
