FG Automates Admission Into Unity Colleges to Curb Overcrowding
Nigeria’s Ministry of Education has introduced automated admissions into federal unity colleges nationwide.
The reform ensures schools strictly operate within approved capacity, tackling overpopulation challenges of previous years.
The Federal Ministry of Education has announced that admissions into all federal unity colleges across Nigeria will now be fully automated and strictly aligned with each school’s approved capacity.
The reform, unveiled in Abuja on Tuesday by Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations at the ministry, is aimed at tackling the persistent problem of overpopulation in unity schools, where admissions in past years often exceeded carrying capacity, straining facilities and resources.
According to the ministry, the ongoing automated process is focused on 80 Federal Unity Colleges for the Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS1) intake. Information on admissions to the 42 Federal Technical Colleges under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program will be released at a later date.
Boriowo explained that the automated process is designed to promote transparency, accountability, and adherence to standards, ensuring that unity colleges no longer operate beyond their approved limits.
The Ministry noted that the automation will also streamline the process, making it easier for parents and guardians to verify admission status without relying on intermediaries.
Boriowo further confirmed that the results of the current exercise are available online. Candidates and parents can now check admission lists directly via the Ministry’s official website: www.education.gov.ng.
