Ogun APC Suspends Senator Gbenga Daniel Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

Ogun APC has suspended ex-governor and senator Gbenga Daniel over alleged anti-party activities.

Party officials said Daniel and his ally ignored disciplinary invitations, prompting indefinite suspension ratified by the state committee.

The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended Senator Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of the state, along with his associate Kunle Folarin, due to allegations of anti-party conduct.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 19, party spokesperson Nuberu Olufemi confirmed that the state working committee (SWC) ratified the suspensions, which their respective wards had recommended.

According to the APC, Daniel’s Ward 4 in Shagamu Local Government Area set up a disciplinary committee to investigate allegations of misconduct and anti-party activities. Olufemi explained that both Daniel and Folarin were formally invited to appear before the committee to defend themselves, but they did not respond to the invitations.

“They were invited to the disciplinary meetings where they would have had the opportunity to present evidence in their defense or request a pardon from the party. However, both failed to submit a written defense or attend the meetings,” the statement read. The party also alleged that the two attempted to intimidate members, warning them against cooperating with the committees and pressuring them to withdraw their petitions.

“In light of this, the committees resolved to protect the integrity of the process. After reviewing the available evidence, they suspended both members indefinitely, pending further investigation,” Olufemi added.

The state working committee subsequently ratified the suspensions, stating that this action was necessary to uphold the party’s constitution and maintain discipline. “This shows the party’s dedication to maintaining discipline and following its constitution,” Olufemi stated.

The suspensions come amid speculation of strained relations between Senator Daniel and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun.
