Why Bimbo Thomas Stepped Away From the Big Screen
Bimbo Thomas reveals she stepped back from acting after producers kept offering her ghetto roles.
The actress insists she is versatile and determined to prove her talent beyond stereotypes.
Nollywood actress Bimbo Thomas has shared the reason behind her break from acting, explaining that she felt boxed into a particular kind of role.

In an interview on the Old Secret podcast, Bimbo recalled how the success of her breakout film Omo Ghetto led producers to repeatedly cast her in similar characters. She admitted it became frustrating seeing herself restricted to one image.
She said:
“After the Omo ghetto film, I did another one, and more producers kept reaching out to me for ghetto roles.I felt they wanted to box me, they wanted to put me in a corner”.
Emphasizing her versatility, the actress noted that she can easily slip between different personalities and accents.
“One minute I’m speaking phonetically, the next I do ghetto and so on,” she said.
Bimbo also pointed out that although she gained fame through Pidgin English roles, it is not her natural way of speaking. “I wasn’t born in the barracks, so pidgin isn’t my thing,” she explained.
Now, with years of industry experience, Bimbo says her goal is to keep breaking stereotypes and reminding audiences that she can take on a wide range of roles beyond the “ghetto girl” image.
