Soludo: Politicians Promising One-Term Agenda Are Deceitful

Governor Chukwuma Soludo has dismissed one-term pledges by politicians as dishonest or proof of unfitness.

He argued no leader can fully deliver in a single term, calling such promises deceptive.

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has criticized politicians who pledge to serve only one term in office, describing them as either dishonest or unfit for leadership.

Speaking in an interview with Arise TV on Wednesday, August 20, the governor argued that such promises are deceptive because no leader can fully deliver on their manifesto within a single term. He maintained that anyone making such a commitment is either deliberately misleading the people or requires mental evaluation.

Soludo explained that his remarks were directed at some politicians in Anambra who have vowed to unseat him and serve only one term if elected governor. He noted that it is currently the turn of the North-Central zone of the state to hold the office, but aspirants from other areas are insisting on contesting and making what he described as empty pledges.

The governor had earlier, on August 2, made similar comments during a political gathering, where he said politicians making one-term promises were in need of psychiatric assessment. The statement had stirred controversy, with some Nigerians interpreting it as a veiled attack on former Anambra governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who recently pledged to serve a single term if elected president in 2027.
