General Musa: Southeast More Peaceful After Simon Ekpa’s Arrest
CDS General Christopher Musa says pro-Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa remains on trial in Finland for terrorism.
He noted Ekpa’s arrest has brought relative calm to the Southeast as troops pursue his associates.
Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has confirmed that pro-Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa, who was arrested in Finland in November 2024 on terrorism-related charges, remains on trial in the European country.

Speaking on Channels Television on Thursday, August 21, General Musa noted that since Ekpa’s arrest, the security situation in Nigeria’s Southeast has improved significantly. He explained that troops have intensified operations to track down Ekpa’s associates across Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Abia states.
According to him, Ekpa’s prosecution demonstrates that earlier warnings about his activities were justified. “He is still facing trial in Finland, and we are hopeful. When we raised the alarm, many doubted us. But since his arrest, there has been noticeable calm in the Southeast. We will continue to pursue others like him, wherever they may be, until they are neutralized,” he said.
General Musa also highlighted the recent capture of Ansaru terrorist commanders, describing it as a major victory. He credited the success to detailed planning and effective coordination among the Nigerian Air Force, Army, and Navy.
“What has changed is the level of synergy across all security agencies. That cooperation is the reason we are recording these successes,” he added.
