Former Super Eagles defender Taribo West voiced his deep frustration regarding the state of Nigeria while paying tribute at the funeral of late goalkeeper Peter Rufai.

With emotion, West stated that he would never encourage even his own child to live in Nigeria, citing the difficult realities facing citizens. “I will never advise my son to set foot in this country,” West declared, highlighting the challenges Nigerians endure despite the nation’s rich potential.

The funeral of Rufai, affectionately known as “Dodo Mayana,” brought together former teammates, football officials, and fans, all of whom described him as one of Nigeria’s greatest goalkeepers. Rufai, who passed away recently, was celebrated for his remarkable performances during Nigeria’s victory at the 1994 African Cup of Nations and the nation’s debut at the FIFA World Cup in the same year.
