Kano State Makes Voter Registration a Mandatory Duty
Kano State Governor has directed all eligible residents to register, making voter registration a compulsory civic duty across the state.
He inaugurated a 36-member committee tasked with mobilizing ten million citizens before the registration exercise ends.
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has declared that registering to vote is now a compulsory obligation for every qualified resident of the state.

The governor announced this on Friday while inaugurating a 36-member Committee on Voters Registration and Civic Awareness at the Government House. The committee has been given the responsibility of mobilizing citizens to participate in the ongoing nationwide voter registration exercise.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Faruk Umar Ibrahim, the governor said the target was to ensure at least 10 million people in Kano are registered before the process ends. Ibrahim described the assignment as a tough but crucial one, stressing that it would require total commitment.
According to him, the committee is expected to guarantee that an additional five million voters are captured in the exercise. Their work will also include monitoring polling units across the state, encouraging people to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and working closely with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to make the cards available on time.
He noted that Kano, as the most populous state in Nigeria, must take advantage of the opportunity to strengthen its political influence. “We expect those who were earlier disenfranchised to seize this opportunity,” Ibrahim said.
The governor, he added, believes that effective voter registration is the pathway for citizens to elect credible leaders who are committed to development.
Responding on behalf of members, the committee chairman and Commissioner for Information, Malam Ibrahim Waiya, described the task as a call to service and assured that they would deliver on their mandate.
