FAAN Restarts Direct Revenue Collection at Lagos Airport Cargo Terminals After 15 Years

FAAN has resumed direct revenue collection at Lagos airport cargo terminals after a 15-year break.

The agency says the move will block leakages, boost transparency, and improve efficiency in cargo operations.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has resumed direct revenue collection at the cargo terminals of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, marking the end of a 15-year pause.

In a statement released on Saturday by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, FAAN confirmed that staff from the Directorate of Cargo Development and Services have now been deployed to cargo release points operated by the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) and Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO). These officials are tasked with supervising and ensuring real-time collection of cargo-related charges.

According to the agency, the move represents a “significant breakthrough” for Nigeria’s aviation sector. For the first time in more than a decade, FAAN officers are directly overseeing revenue collection processes within the warehouses, a step designed to block financial leakages and enforce stricter accountability.

The statement added that the initiative is being carried out in partnership with the PTC Customs Area Command, under the leadership of Comptroller T. Awe. This collaboration is already yielding results in terms of efficiency and transparency across the cargo supply chain.

FAAN further described the new system as part of its broader strategy to strengthen operational performance, promote inter-agency cooperation, and improve the ease of doing business at Nigeria’s airports. The success recorded at MMIA, it noted, would be used as a model for similar rollouts in other airports nationwide.
