Adama clocked an impressive 23.64 seconds in the final, narrowly missing gold to Great Britain’s Dean Fearn, who won with 23.54 seconds. The bronze medal went to Spain’s Jorge Vives.

In a statement, NSC Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, described Adama’s performance as a milestone for Nigerian and African swimming.

“Abduljabar Adama’s silver medal is a proud moment for Nigeria and for Africa. His hard work and talent have once again demonstrated that our athletes can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best in the world,” Olopade said.

He added that the achievement reinforces the NSC commitment to building a structure that nurtures young talents:

“Moments like this remind us of the importance of investing in sports development. We believe this is only the beginning of many more international triumphs for Adama and Nigerian swimming.”

Adama’s journey to the podium was remarkable. He caught attention in the heats with the second-fastest overall time of 23.61 seconds out of 116 competitors across 12 heats. He dominated the semifinals, winning his race in 23.48 seconds and competing bravely in the final.

This recent achievement builds on his previous successes at the 16th Africa Junior Swimming Championships held in Cairo, Egypt, where he won three gold medals and one bronze. He also set several records, including a new African Junior benchmark in the 50m freestyle.

With his silver medal in Romania, Adama has established himself as one of the brightest young swimmers to watch on the global stage, bringing Nigeria a new wave of hope in aquatic sports.
