Nigeria Police Repatriates Chinese Fugitive in Joint INTERPOL Operation
Nigeria Police have repatriated wanted Chinese fugitive Dai Qisheng after his arrest in Abuja.
The operation, done with INTERPOL and China, underscores Nigeria’s fight against transnational crime.
The Nigeria Police Force, through its INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja, has successfully repatriated a wanted Chinese fugitive, Mr. Dai Qisheng, to the People’s Republic of China.

According to a statement released on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Muyiwa Adejobi, the operation was conducted in close coordination with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Embassy of China in Nigeria. The move, he said, demonstrates Nigeria’s strong stance against transnational organized crime.
Qisheng, identified as the ringleader of a violent criminal gang in Guizhou Province, China, was declared wanted by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County in 2024. He had fled China in an attempt to evade justice and later took refuge in Nigeria.
Following intelligence gathering, INTERPOL operatives in Abuja tracked and arrested him on August 8, 2025. He was handed over to Chinese authorities on August 15, 2025, under established police-to-police cooperation agreements.
The police statement stressed that the operation reinforces Nigeria’s determination to ensure fugitives cannot find sanctuary within its borders. It further highlighted the value of international law enforcement collaboration in dismantling global crime networks.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s readiness to strengthen global security ties, emphasizing that intelligence-sharing and joint operations remain vital tools for confronting cross-border crimes.
He noted that the arrest and handover of Qisheng sends a strong warning to fugitives worldwide: Nigeria will not serve as a safe haven for criminals fleeing justice.
