2027 Elections: PDP in Talks With Obi and Jonathan Over Presidential Race
The Peoples Democratic Party is reportedly in talks with Goodluck Jonathan and Peter Obi.
Party leaders say the discussions could shape alliances as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections.
Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, has revealed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is holding talks with former President Goodluck Jonathan and Labour Party’s Peter Obi as part of preparations for the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, August 26, Moro confirmed that both men are being reached out to as the opposition party works on strategies to return to power.
“So, in the run-up to 2027, I am aware certain individuals have been talking to Peter Obi,” he said, adding that the discussions include a possible return to the PDP. Moro also noted that “some persons are talking to the former president to come and run,” stressing that it remains a possibility.
Jonathan, who lost his re-election bid in 2015 to Muhammadu Buhari, has largely kept a low political profile since leaving office, though calls for his return to the PDP have continued among supporters.
Obi, a former Anambra State governor, left the PDP ahead of the 2023 elections to run under the Labour Party, where his campaign drew massive support from young Nigerians. He finished third behind Bola Tinubu of the APC and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.
Although Obi has since engaged with other opposition coalitions, he has not clearly stated under which platform he would contest in 2027.
The PDP has already zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, a decision expected to play a key role in shaping alliances and negotiations ahead of what is likely to be a highly competitive race.
