Jonathan’s Cousin Denies Report of Ex-President Rejecting 2027 Election Bid
Jonathan’s family has dismissed reports claiming the former president ruled out joining the 2027 election.
His cousin Robert Azibaola described the story as false, urging Nigerians to ignore misleading publications.
The family of former President Goodluck Jonathan has refuted claims that he has ruled out contesting the 2027 presidential election.
The clarification came after a report alleged that Jonathan had chosen not to run in order to protect Southern unity. Responding to the report on Friday, August 29, his cousin, Robert Azibaola, described the story as false.
Taking to his verified Facebook page, Azibaola wrote: “Fake news! No such aide exists, no such statement was made. Neither is this a confirmation that GEJ is running. The media should be aware, people are planting stories. FULL STOP!”
Jonathan contested for re-election in 2015 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but lost to Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Since leaving office, he has kept a low political profile, focusing on public engagements that highlight his image as a statesman.
