Shettima: Posterity Will Commend Tinubu’s Bold Economic Reforms

Vice President Kashim Shettima says President Bola Tinubu will be remembered kindly for tough economic reforms.

He praised Tinubu’s political courage and global partnerships, insisting the painful policies are necessary for Nigeria’s future.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed confidence that history will judge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu favorably for implementing what he described as hard but necessary reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s economy.

Speaking on Thursday at the State House in Abuja, Shettima highlighted Tinubu’s resolve to diversify the economy and his willingness to make politically difficult choices for the country’s long-term benefit.

“In President Bola Tinubu, you have an ally, a friend who grew up in the same ecosystem as you, who speaks your language of business and commerce, who understands the economic terrain, and most importantly, who has the political courage,” Shettima stated.

The Vice President noted that Tinubu’s recent official visit to Brazil underscored this commitment, with both countries signing five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) spanning aviation, foreign affairs, science and technology, and agriculture. He described the agreements as deliberate measures to broaden Nigeria’s economic base and foster global partnerships.

Shettima also disclosed that the Federal Government is considering the creation of a task team to design and implement a standardized architectural framework for the country, part of wider efforts to modernize infrastructure and governance systems.

Tinubu’s economic decisions including the removal of fuel subsidies, unification of exchange rates, and emphasis on non-oil sectors have stirred mixed reactions at home. While critics argue the policies have worsened hardship in the short term, supporters insist they are critical to attracting investment and ensuring long-term stability.

According to Shettima, these reforms, though painful, reflect the President’s political will and determination to secure Nigeria’s future. “Posterity will praise him for taking bold decisions,” he affirmed.
