Nigerian Army Troops Neutralize Armed Militia in Plateau

Nigerian Army troops have killed a suspected militia member during an operation in Barkin Ladi, Plateau State.

Officials said the suspect, earlier arrested with arms, was neutralized after attempting escape.

Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralized a suspected militia member during an operation in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

According to a statement issued on Saturday, September 6, 2025, by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer of Operation ENDURING PEACE, the suspect had earlier been arrested at Kaskra on September 4 in possession of an AK-47 rifle and 11 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Major Zhakom explained that the individual admitted involvement in several criminal activities within the Barkin Ladi axis and agreed to lead security forces to his group’s hideout to recover hidden weapons.

He added that on September 5, troops launched a follow-up operation based on the suspect’s disclosure. During the search, the suspect reportedly attempted to overpower a soldier and seize his weapon in a bid to escape. Soldiers on the ground acted quickly and neutralized him.

The body of the suspect has since been deposited in a morgue.

Major Zhakom noted that troops of 3 Division and the Joint Task Force remain committed to eliminating armed groups and ensuring lasting peace in Plateau and surrounding areas.
